Getting to Know Me...
I was born and raised a Vermonter and then moved to San Diego in 2000 where I lived for ten years starting my own family. I moved here to the Dripping Springs area in 2010 with my husband and two children (Emma 6th grade at DSMS and Camden 3rd grade at WSES). My husband, Chris, is a scientist for a local biotech company, MiRNA Therapeutics, working on treatments for cancer. I attended National University, where education was the focus of my undergraduate and graduate studies. I earned a Master of Education in Cross-Cultural Studies. Most recently, I have undergone training to be a Dyslexia Specialist.
I have taught first, second, and third grade students. I have had extensive training in teaching struggling readers and students that have been identified as dyslexic.
I am truly enjoying being a part of the Walnut Springs learning community and I am prepared to provide your children with reading instruction of the highest standard.
A Word About My Room...
Students enter my room to a caring and rich environment where they can immerse themselves in learning. I constantly strive to foster a caring environment where students feel safe (socially, emotionally and physically) and can, therefore, be successful learners and readers!
Educational Philosophy
It is my goal that each student develops a passion for learning and reading AND the responsibility and confidence necessary to follow that passion. I work hard to teach each child as an individual, meeting their specific needs and encouraging their strengths.
Statements of Belief:
-The parent is the child's most profoundly influential teacher.
-Student self-esteem and security is critical to the development of an enthusiasm for learning (and reading!).
-Each student is important and must be taught at their level, offering challenge and support in instruction.
-Achievement requires hard work.
-Learning does not stop when the school bell rings at the end of the day.
-Student activities should prepare children for thinking and living both in and out of school.
